Internship Program
The Internship Program at the Embassy of Pakistan is one of the most academically rewarding programs for the youth. The program is organized to provide the interns firsthand experience in Pakistani politics, diplomacy, and the dynamics of international relationships in American. The internship Program started out as an outreach program for young adults to engage in the community which has grown now through out the United States . The program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students in United States colleges and universities. Students are encouraged to apply for academic credits from their Universities for the internship programme with the Embassy of Pakistan. The students work with the career diplomats in Embassy of Pakistan under the supervision of the HOC (Head of Chancery) and DCM (Deputy Chief of Mission ).
History of the Program
The Internship Program was started in 2002 by the then DCM, Mr. Mohammad Saadiq, whose vision was to provide educational and practical experience through an internship program for second generation of Pakistani and future leaders of Pakistan in America . The program is designed for exceptional students interested in the field of international affairs, economics, journalism, human rights and PAK-US bilateral relationships. The program is based on voluntary basis, usually from Monday thru Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Internship Benefits
Internship offers opportunities to enhance intern's knowledge and experience with the Ministers at the Embassy of Pakistan to develop relations. They attend congressional hearings and meet with the influential Pakistani's working in places such as the World Bank, IMF, PAL-C, and USAID. Interns also find the opportunity to meet with Congressional staffers and have conferences with Pakistani politicians visiting United States .
Requirements
The Interns are expected to write reports, press releases and letters to the editors along with book reviews and a long term research paper on the topic of interest.
The interns are required to have excellent writing skills, good communications abilities, maturity and ability to work independently with little supervision, and the competency to work with other people.
2008 Interns
Present interns are working to organize energy conference at the Embassy of Pakistan in the United State . They are also systematizing youth conferences for the young people living in the American to bring them together to build strong relations as a community. Through this internship, they have learned practical political knowledge and acquired a better understanding to deal with unsolved issues on an international level, and to explore the interaction between citizens and government. The interns are able to accumulate Pakistani American Community information. The Interns also learn how international polices are affecting the upcoming problems and the impacts these policies in the present world. Intern's goals are to create learning environments through exploring, developing, and discussing educational philosophies in order to obtain the solutions for their future professions for the betterment of Pakistan . The interns are given a strong program that helps them gain knowledge, success, and build a long-standing relationship with the people they intern with and for. It is a program for the second generation of Pakistani who wish to be tomorrow's leaders for a better future.
Previous interns also have had the opportunity to work on various initiatives such as the Rising Leaders, Youth Conference, and other projects by the Embassy to reach out to the community and to shape Pakistan 's politics. (Interns Profile)
